PRE RIDE ASSESSMENT AND GROUNDWORK = SAFETY:

So what are the benefits of groundwork.....

Playing games on the ground with your horse can be very rewarding for both horse and rider.....as well as can act as a clear assessment as to what mood and frame of mind your horse is in before you decide to ride ........and you really should do some groundwork with your horse before every ride as to monitor this.

For example.....if your horse was really disconnected during the groundwork session and was not complying with your requests, there is no way on earth you should be even thinking about getting on and riding....and you will either need to do more on the ground as to get your horse connected to you before you ride or forget your riding session for that day ....this advice is for your safety so please don't just ignore negative signals from your groundwork sessions as this is how people really hurt themselves with horses.....and get bucked off or take a fall etc....

ALSO A BIG NO TO LUNGING-running a horse in mindless circles, as in lunging or longing as it's sometimes called, is not anything like the groundwork I'm referring to.....it's super boring for the horse, and has no place in any mental or physical development of our equine friends.....and I have yet to meet ANY horse who likes to be lunged, so I implore you not to lunge ....for any reason please? So what else can you do to replace lunging and offer mental stimulation for your horse....Groundwork Games.....

On the fun side of things- please try to see your ground work as a game rather than "work" ....as this is meant to be fun for both of you There area million things to do on the ground with horses....just google " groundwork for horses" and see for yourself.....
