HORSE RESCUE

LEARNING TO READ A HORSE'S ESSENCE....

After working with behaviourally challenging and trauma horses for all these years, experience in this area has taught me that science cannot explain everything surrounding horses.

Therefore "Essence" is not something you can see, or will hear your average horse trainer talking about.....but after lifestyle, diet, tack and saddle assessments, I have found it to be a very real and vital component of gaining success and trust with horses.

So what exactly is a horses "essence" and how can being able to read it help you become a better horse person?

TEN STEPS ON HOW TO TURN AROUND A TROUBLED HORSE: FEEL FREE TO SHARE STEP 1; PROVIDE A LOW SUGAR DIET:

TEN STEPS ON HOW TO TURN AROUND A TROUBLED HORSE:
STEP 1; PROVIDE A LOW SUGAR DIET:
Just like kids can display negative behaviours from eating high sugar foods, horses can also get high from sugars too......and unless you are running a winning racehorse or other high energy equine competitor, there really is no place for sugar high behaviour in most domestic horses.
In fact most horse owner/handlers don't recognise that lush green cow-grass is full of fructans, which are sugars, and it's these that play a major factor in behavioural problems with our horses.

THE AMAZING HEALING PROPERTIES OF VITAMIN C AND HORSES:

Case after case, we have seen the miracle of Vitamin C go to work to help to heal horses from a wide variety of conditions and ailments, over and over again, during the last ten years of running our horse rescue centre.

From wounds to disease and illnesses-to hoof abscesses and thrush, muscle and joint inflammation, to mud fever, to skin allergies and a whole array of dermatitic conditions, to eye problems, and stomach ulcers, to laminitis, to damaged tendons and ligaments, to conditions involving stress and colds, and every other ailment in horses in between.

HORSEMANSHIP JOURNEY'S

HOW DID I GET INTO THIS IS A QUESTION I AM ASKED OFTEN BY PEOPLE ABOUT MY UNIQUE APPROACH TO HORSES?

It actually seems like it was a million years ago now.....but I had rescued a few dogs in my late teen as I have always loved animals, and this lead to me ending up with a wild pure bred American Timberwolf when I was in my early twenties and living back in the UK.

I was dumped with this amazing but raw animal unexpectedly, and the human world was a place this innocent canine was just not capable of understanding.

MEET MISSY:

For new people to this site we wanted to introduce you to Missy-who is one of our resident rescue horses......

Missy is a falabella breed of miniature horse, and is exceptionally small at just 5 hands high....so a tad bigger than a german shepherd dog to give you all some size perspective of her.

However she makes up for her size with her larger than life personalty

Sadly Missy has suffered terribly in her past, and been brutalized in the most horrific of ways prior to us taking her on..

OTTO UPDATE

OTTO UPDATE:

I wanted to let you all know how the lovely Otto is doing . For anyone who isn't aware-Otto is our most recent severe behavioural case, which we took on a couple of months ago. He's the big Clydie shown here with the larger white face, next to Max, who is another of our larger rescue horses.

Otto is a very extreme case and is scared to death of everything... especially people, making him extremely dangerous, as he is so suspicious, taking innocent actions the wrong way and has been known to over-react from his perception of fear due to this.

MAGNESIUM-is it a rip off and a doping agent?

MAGNESIUM-is it a rip off and a doping agent?

No doubt the Billion Dollar Equine Supplement Industry will have my head on the block for sharing this with all of you, but I wanted to get to the nitty gritty facts about this untruthful myth regarding magnesium being the holy grail of minerals for horses, as it is simply untrue!

We have spent many thousands of dollars on researching minerals and many years of scientific study, and our findings go against the grain of many others.....

Magnesium is one of the most accessible minerals within our paddocks and is found in most equine foodstuffs, including grass, chaffs, hays and pelleted feeds.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW RESCUE HORSE OTTO

Otto, our newest rescue horse, arrived safely to our place this morning after a very long trip.

The poor boy was very frightened but is settling in well.

The photo is quite deceiving as he looks to be of normal size alongside our other 2 big drafties, but all 3 of these rescue horses are serious heavyweights at 17.2hh so he's also another big fella.

I have written my initial assessment of him below so you can all see how we read horses in order to help them correctly with their issues, but I wanted to share with you what a simply stunning and warm energy Otto has, plus he looks equally as handsome on the outside as he is on the inside too :) as I don't want any of you to think he is a "bad" horse as there are no bad horses.
